Elizabeth Zimmerman Percentage System SweaterIf you are anything like me, Elizabeth Zimmerman’s designs are fascinating but can be a bit overwhelming in her approach to pattern writing. Unlike other designers, who create a very strict sense of direction, EZ believes in providing the basic outline of a sweater pattern, and giving you the mathematical tools to contour the sweater to your liking, she refers to this technique as Elizabeth’s Percentage System (EPS). This Fall, we are fortunate to have Karen Schwartz teach this technique which will ultimately lead to your own personally designed pattern and sweater.
Put the genius of Elizabeth Zimmermann (EZ) to work for you to create your own unique, custom fit, seamless sweater. You will learn the EPS techniques that will help you design your own sweaters and leave commercial patterns behind. In this class students will design and knit a bottom-up pullover sweater with a round yoke.
Please bring the yarn you wish to use and needles appropriate for the yarn. To be on the safe side, you will need approximately 1500-1800 yds of DK or worsted weight yarn to complete this project. If you do run short, there are ways in which to design the sweater to compensate. This sweater is perfect for handspun. Please knit a gauge swatch before class. An added plus, from this class, you will have a much more accurate idea of how much yardage you will need for future sweaters.
Prereq: This class is ideal for an intermediate knitter. This means that you know how to work in the round, and are comfortable knitting, purling, increasing, and decreasing.
